A demanding wine
“I’d rather leave that one to you”, says my wife – A situation that sometimes pops up at home when she just wants something easygoing in the glass while cooking, and the bottle I’ve opened turns out to be a bit too layered, too demanding, and simply not quite what she had in mind. No problem. This Terlaner needs attention – and that’s exactly what makes it so intriguing. Wines that challenge are my kind of wines. And this one? It’s mine.
On the nose, it reveals the classic South Tyrolean triad: Pinot Blanc brings freshness, Chardonnay adds softness and volume, and Sauvignon Blanc contributes its subtle herbal edge. Aromas of peach and apricot, green apple and a touch of fresh grass rise from the glass. But behind the fruit lie delicate herbal notes, lovage, a hint of juniper. Nothing loud, nothing showy, more like a quiet conversation among connoisseurs.
On the palate, it flows with ease – smooth and precise, guided by a juicy, fine acidity. The structure is compact but never rigid, the mouthfeel almost creamy, yet the wine remains focused and clear. The alcohol supports without dominating. The finish: fruity, mineral, persistent. One that lingers.
A Terlaner just as you’d expect from Cantina Terlan, reliable in character, ready for a new chapter. One that challenges. And precisely because of that, brings me joy.
Serving tip: Serve gently chilled, not too cold. This wine rewards care. Excellent with delicate fish dishes, roasted vegetables, herb risotto, or simply as a companion to a quiet, thoughtful moment.
