A wine made for a cigar!
A deep, dark purple hue. On the nose, blackcurrant, blackberry, and delicate vanilla notes intertwine. Smooth and velvety on the palate, with fine tannins and a well-structured acidity. The quartet of subtle oak (aged 18 months in small barrels), dark chocolate, tobacco, and blackberry is truly remarkable. This blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon makes a compelling case for itself.
Why does this wine immediately bring to mind a Cohiba or a Romeo y Julieta? The answer: because this Saint-Émilion would be the perfect companion.
A bit of history: Château D’Arcole was the first estate in Saint-Émilion to transition to certified organic farming back in the 1960s. The estate takes its name from the Battle of Arcole (November 15–17, 1796), where Napoleon Bonaparte led his troops to victory against the Austrian army at the Bridge of Arcole in the province of Verona during the First Coalition War. Jean Barthe, who served as a soldier in the French Guard during this historic triumph, later received a vineyard parcel as a gift from Napoleon Bonaparte and went on to establish Château Pont d’Arcole.
