Triumvirate of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre
Deep red in the glass. The nose reveals notes of pepper, dark chocolate, green bell pepper, and licorice. On the palate, Mediterranean herbal aromas evoke the wild maquis of Corsica. Pleasantly full-bodied with a smooth, inviting drinkability. The finish is peppery and spicy, carried by well-balanced tannins.
This southern French gem pairs beautifully with Mediterranean meat dishes or grilled fish. I chose this blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre to accompany lamb chops with pre-cooked potatoes marinated in rosemary, bay leaf, olive oil, and black pepper, garnished with feta cheese in a yogurt marinade–finished with a generous sprinkle of coarse black pepper.
