Fine wine for beginners and bargain hunters
This classic from Negrar shines in a deep, intense garnet red. The multifaceted nose reveals notes of tobacco, wood, chocolate, dried fruits, and spices. On the palate, it starts off surprisingly fresh, easy-drinking, and fruity, with blackberry and blueberry taking the spotlight. This is followed by a pleasantly warm, velvety structure with a hint of sweetness, elegantly wrapped in polished tannins. The long-lasting finish, with subtle bitter tones and cherry notes, is both stimulating and inviting.
With 15.5% ABV, the alcohol remains discreet at first but becomes more pronounced with aeration—so its initial smoothness can be deceiving.
The Gran Signoria undeniably reflects the signature style of an Amarone della Valpolicella, flirting with the 90-point mark. However, it still has a long way to go before reaching the league of top-tier Amarone—which, to be fair, is not its ambition.
